Alstom has been awarded a contract worth close to €40 million by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), to supply 3×660 MW supercritical boilers and components for the North Karanpura coal power plant in Jharkhand, India.

Under the scope of the contract, Alstom will design the 660 MW supercritical boilers and supply identified pressure parts along with windboxes. Alstom will also assist BHEL during erection as well as commissioning of the units, which is expected in 2017.

"The order represents the tenth contract for supercritical boilers that has been signed between Alstom and BHEL since 2008."

Alstom said it will manufacture key components for the project at its facilities in Concordia (USA) and in Durgapur (India).

The order represents the tenth contract for supercritical boilers that has been signed between Alstom and BHEL since 2008. Other contracts cover orders for the Barh II, Krishnapatnam, Bara, Yermaras, Bellary, Mouda, Nabinagar, Gadarwara, Suratgarh and earlier this month the Darlipalli project (2×800 MW boilers) in India.

The North Karanpura project forms part of NTPC Ltd’s Bulk 660 MW tender.
