Japan’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant has started operating.

The 82 MW plant in Oita City, southern Japan was built by Marubeni as part of a commitment to increase renewable energy investment. It is expected to generate 87 000 MWh per annum.

Electricity from the plant will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power Co under a 20-year power purchase agreement. Modules for the project were supplied by Hanwa Q Cells.

Marubeni is also building a 49 MW PV farm and a 28 MW PV project in Japan.
