Siemens Energy has secured a 33 MW wind turbine order for the first phase of the Wind aan de Stroom project in Belgium. It is the company’s first wind power order in the country.
Initially, Siemens will supply ten SWT-3.0-113 and one SWT-3.0-101 direct drive wind turbines for the project, which is being built in Antwerp harbor. The contract also includes a 15-year services and maintenance agreement.
There is also potential to extend the Wind aan de Stroom project to 17 wind turbines, Siemens says.
The project was put out to tender by Wind aan de Stroom, a partnership between port authority, Gemeentelijk Havenbedrijf Antwerpen, Maatschappij Linkerscheldeoever and GEHA.
Component deliveries will start in early 2015 and installation of the turbines is scheduled for summer 2015, Siemens says.
Once completed, the wind power plant will be integrated in a smart grid which is currently developed as part of a pilot project with the Belgian DSO Eandis.
