Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction of Korea and Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan have placed an order with Toshiba for two 600 MW supercritical steam turbine generators (STGs) for the Vinh Tan 4 thermal power plant in Vietnam.

Doosan and Mitsubishi are members of the consortium carrying out the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the plant, which is located in Binh Thuan province.

Toshiba will start delivery of the equipment in 2015 and the 1200 MW plant is scheduled to start operating in 2017.

The EPC partners started construction of the plant in March 2014. The project is part of Vietnam’s plans to expand power generating capacity from 26 836 MW in 2012 to 75 000 MW in 2020, and to 146 800 MW by 2030.
