Toshiba is to provide a 1000 MW ultra-supercritical steam turbine and generator for a project in Indonesia to expand the Cirebon coal-fired power plant.
PT Cirebon Energi Prasarana (CEPR) awarded Toshiba the contract, which the firm will execute in conjunction with consortium partners, including Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems and Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd.
The steam turbine generator to be supplied is in is in the world’s largest output class. Toshiba will also provide other equipment including plant control equipment.
The Cirebon plant, in West Java Province, was commissioned in July 2012 and is operated by PT Cirebon Electric Power. The expansion project is being managed by CEPR, a special purpose company established through a joint ownership of five companies – Marubeni, PT. Indika Energy Energy Tbk, Korean Samtan Co., Ltd., Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. and Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc. – that will also construct and operate the plant.
Commercial operation is scheduled for 2020. Once operational, it will be the largest coal fired ultra-super critical thermal power plant in Indonesia.
