Regulators in Ohio, USA, have approved plans for the construction of a 1105 MW gas-fired power plant.

The South Field power plant is being developed by Advanced Power and Bechtel in Columbiana County. The $1.1 billion project will help to meet a growing energy gap in the region, Advanced Power said.

Construction of the power plant is due to start in January 2017 and it is expected to start commercial operations in January 2020.

Advanced Power is building another CCGT plant in Carroll County, Ohio. The 700 MW facility will feature two GE 7F.05 gas turbines and a D602 steam turbine.

Ohio is a prime spot for oil and gas development thanks to the state’s Utica shale play, one of the newest natural gas discoveries in North America.
