Vattenfall has won the tender to build the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm with a bid of €49.9/MWh, it has announced.
Kriegers Flak will be Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm and is a key part of the country’s strategy to become fossil fuel-free by 2050. Winning the bid means that Vattenfall will be able to start developing the 132 km2 project area in the Baltic Sea.
“The announcement is an essential milestone for our ambition to increase our production of renewable power,” said Magnus Hall, CEO of Vattenfall. “We are already the second largest offshore player globally. The winning bid of €49.9 per MWh proves that Vattenfall is highly competitive and brings down the costs for renewable energy.”
Vattenfall will invest €1.1-1.3 billion in Kriegers Flak, pending a final investment decision. The firm has also won Denmark’s other two most recent offshore wind tenders – Horns Rev 3 and Danish Near Shore.
