Wärtsilä has added to a recent string of orders for power plants in Bangladesh with a new order from the Orion Group.
Wärtsilä is to supply two 110 MW power plants to Orion, one of Bangladesh’s largest industrial conglomerates, to help it overcome power shortages in the country.
The order will bring Wärtsilä’s total installed base in Bangladesh to more than 3700 MW.
Wärtsilä will supply six heavy fuel oil 50 engines for Orion’s Rupsha power plant and a further six for the Sonargaon project. Both projects are scheduled to start operating in 2018 and will feed energy into the national grid.
“We have previously installed Wärtsilä engines in three other power plant projects and we have had very good experience with them,” said Salman Karim, Managing Director of Orion Power. “Both the equipment and the support we receive from the company are reliable and efficient, and we are very pleased to have them as a partner in these two important projects.”
