E.ON has put the Texas Waves energy storage project in the USA into operation, it has announced.

The Texas Waves project consists of two 10 MW short duration lithium ion batteries and are designed to provide grid support and system services to the grid in Texas, where E.ON operates the Pyron and Inadale wind farms.

The energy storage project is the second commissioned by E.ON in the USA, following the 10 MW Iron Horse facility in Arizona, which is connected to a 2 MW solar array.

The Texas Waves units are designed to provide ancillary services to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market and can respond to shifts in power demand quickly, improving system reliability and efficiency.
