U-Battery believes its technology – based around a 10 MWt/4MWe high temperature gas cooled reactor designed for cogeneration – could be attractive to Canada’s many (over 300) northern and remote communities, and allow them to move away from diesel fuel. The reactor could also power remote industrial sites, including off-grid mining operations.

It is being developed by Urenco in partnership with Wood, Cammell Laird, Laing O’Rourke and Kinectrics.

Current work is focused on a collaboration between Kinectrics and Urenco to advance the design, development and licensing of the U-Battery reactor in Canada. U-Battery has also recently signed an MoU with Bruce Power.

U-Battery says it will also continue to focus on market development in the United Kingdom.
