Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Ltd (STECON) has awarded Pöyry the engineering services assignment for the 20.6 MW (net) Chana biomass power plant project in Chana District, Songkla, Thailand. The owner of the project is Chana Green Company Limited, a private power producer company and subsidiary of Gulf Development Company Limited. STECON has been selected as the EPC contractor for the project, which will uses rubber wood as fuel.

Pöyry’s assignment covers complete contractor’s engineering services for the project, including process and plant engineering, plant layout design, civil and structural design, mechanical and piping design, control and instrumentation design, electrical design, and procurement and tendering services. The overall schedule for the project is 24 months and the plant is expected to achieve commercial operation in March 2020.

The Chana biomass power plant is being implemented under Thailand’s Small Power Producer (SPP) scheme, under which the 20.6 MW capacity is sold to EGAT (Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand). The project received its notice to proceed in early March 2018.
