A tender launched in April for India’s first offshore wind farm has attracted some of the world’s largest offshore wind developers.
A list of participants released by India’s National Institute of Wind Energy shows that E.On, Orsted, Park Wind, Innogy, Mainstream Renewable Power and Engie are among the list of companies that responded to an expression of interest (EOI).
The EOI was issued by the National Institute of Wind Energy and calls for companies to indicate their interest in developing a 1000 MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Gujurat.
Local Indian firms have also participated in the EOI, including Suzlon, Mytrah Energy and Inox Wind.
The National Institute of Wind Energy is an autonomous research and development (R&D) body controlled by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
MNRE has set a target of developing 5 GW of offshore wind by 2022 and 30 GW by 2030.
