Andritz to reconstruct SWFGD at Vasilikos

Following the placing of an order by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), Andritz reconstructing the seawater flue gas desulphurisation (SWFGD) plant at HFO fuelled Vasilikos unit 3, Cyprus.

The SWFGD plant was completely destroyed in November 2016 following a fire.

Start-up of the new system is scheduled for May 2019.

The scope includes a packed concrete absorber tower, a gas–gas heater (GGH) on top of the absorber, and upgrade of the existing aerationsystem.Togetherwithupgradeofthe existing electrostatic precipitator the project will enable the plant to comply with stricter emissions regulations.

Andritz was previously contracted by Electricity Authority of Cyprus to rehabilitate the Vasilikos 1 and 2 units following an explosionattheneighbouringnavalbasein July 2011.
