Orsted is building its supply chain in Taiwan in preparation for the construction of a 900 MW offshore wind farm in the country.
The Danish renewable energy firm has signed 60 contracts with 30 local Taiwanese suppliers for the first phase of the Greater Changhua offshore wind farm off the coast of Taiwan. It said that it expects to sign a further ten major contracts over the next two months for the project.
Orsted is aiming to start construction of the Greater Changhua wind farm in 2019, subject to securing permits and taking a final investment decision. Contracts to be signed in the next few weeks include the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the first onshore substation, as well as the foundation, turbine and cabling contracts.
Investment in the first phase is expected to be in the region of €4.6 billion, Orsted said. The Changhua development will be built in four phases and could reach 2.4 GW once completed.
