Toshiba Energy Systems and Senvion have inked a strategic alliance to market and sell wind turbines in Japan.
Under the agreement, the two companies will explore opportunities in Japan’s onshore and offshore wind energy markets using Senvion wind turbines. Toshiba will be responsible for customer interface and installation, while Senvion will provide the turbine technology, operation and maintenance services and technical support.
“Senvion is a logical partner for us, with a proven track record of delivery in Japan and the right technology and service solutions for the Japanese market,” said Fumio Otani, Corporate Senior Vice President at Toshiba ESS. “We are excited about this new agreement with Senvion, which will mean that we are strategically placed to increase our share of the wind energy market in Japan.”
The deal will give Senvion greater access to the Japanese wind market, where it has installed 17 wind farms since 2003.
Senvion is currently developing a large-scale offshore wind turbine that it could use in Japan, where offshore wind is seen as having an important role to play in renewable energy targets.
