The developers of the Fryslân wind farm in the Netherlands have awarded a contract to build the project to Zuiderzeewind, a consortium of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) and Van Oord.
The 383 MW nearshore wind farm will be built in the Ijsselmeer, a lake formed when the Zuiderzee was closed off by a man-made dyke, the Afsluitdijk. It will use 89 SGRE wind turbines of the SWT-DD-130 4.3 MW type.
Construction of the wind farm is expected to start in 2019 and be completed by 2021. Van Oord will be responsible for designing, manufacturing and installing the foundations and cables as well as delivering the equipment to install the turbines.
SGRE will be responsible for designing, fabricating and commissioning the turbines and onshore substation at Breezanddijk.
A final investment decision (FID) for the wind farm is expected in Q3 2019.
