Vestas is to supply 415 MW of wind turbines for Saudi Arabia’s first utility-scale wind farm, it has announced.
A consortium of EDF Renewables and Masdar has awarded Vestas the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Dumat Al Jandal wind park in the Al Jouf region of Saudi Arabia.
Under the contract, Vestas will install 99 of its V150-4.2 MW wind turbines at the site in the Al Jawf region, and operate and maintain the facility for 20 years.
Dumat Al Jandal will be one of the largest wind farms in the Middle East and is a major part of plans in Saudi Arabia to expand renewable energy generating capacity. It will sell its output under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company, part of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).
Saudia Arabia is targeting installation of 7 GW of onshore wind energy capacity in the next five years, and 16 GW by 2030.
