The third and final floating platform of the WindFloat Atlantic offshore wind farm has set sail for the project site.
The structure left the Spanish port of Ferrol on May 28 and was due to reach the project site, 20 km off the coast of Viana do Castelo in Portugal, by 31 May, according to the Windplus consortium developing the project. The platform will then be connected to the project’s other two floating platforms, which were installed in late 2019 and which are already grid-connected and operable.
The 25 MW project is the first commercial-scale floating offshore wind farm in continental Europe. It uses semi-submersible floating platforms designed by Principle Power with MHI Vestas V164-8.4MW wind turbines. The Windplus consortium is led by EDP and also includes Engie, Repsol and Principle Power.
