On 13th August, the heavy transport vessel (HTV) Big Lift Barentsz departed Batam in Indonesia with over 10 000 tonnes of steelwork loaded on board. Its cargo, the offshore substation jacket and reactive compensation station jacket for the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm located off the east coast of the UK, had been safely and successfully loaded on board over a number of weeks.
Patrick Harnett, senior programme director for Ørsted’s Hornsea Two said: “Our project teams have overcome some exceptional challenges in order for this vessel to successfully set sail. I am immensely proud of each person who has played their part in the safe construction of this impressive steelwork and look forward to welcoming this vessel to UK waters in the near future.”
The HTV now embarks on a long journey to the UK east coast via the Indian Ocean, around the Cape of Good Hope, along the west coast of Africa and finally through the English Channel – a total transit duration of approximately 50 days.
Once complete in 2022, the 1.4 GW Hornsea Two will become the biggest offshore wind farm in the world.
