GE has secured an order to supply power generation equipment for Naepo Green Energy’s new district heating and power plant located in the centre of Naepo City, South Korea. GE will a gas turbine, its 7HA.02 with its matching H65 generator. The order includes one STF-D650 steam turbine, one H35 generator, one HRSG, one GE condenser and equipment maintenance services for 19 years. The plant will be rated at approximately 500 MWe and will provide steam for district heating to more than 100 000 people. Winter temperatures in the area fall typically to -10 degC.
Mr. Dongsoo Kim, EVP of NPGE commented: “using GE technology for this district heating application will help us meet the government’s objective of shifting away from solid refuse fuel as part of its policy to reduce pollutants.”
The plant, which will be built by Lotte Engineering will benefit from the HA technology capable of reaching close to 64% efficiency in combined cycle, and more than 91% in district heating mode.
GE is a major player in power generation in South Korea. GE’s gas turbines (simple and combined cycle) amount to an installed base of over 75 units with a combined total of more than 14 GWe. GE has been present in South Korea since 1976, and in 2015 undertook a large-scale manufacturing plant investment in Changwon, South Korea, by acquiring Doosan’s HRSG manufacturing business.
