GE and Uniper have conducted implementation and testing of the first GT26 High Efficiency (HE) gas turbine upgrade, carried out at Uniper’s Enfield power station in London.

The results, says GE, have confirmed that both efficiency and power output have exceeded expectations

Now Enel Argentina SA’s subsidiary Central Dock Sud, and Keppel Merlimau Cogen Pte Ltd (KMC), have both ordered the HE upgrade to boost the performance of their plants in Argentina and Singapore.

The Enfield upgrade was installed to improve the performance and extend the maintenance interval of the combined cycle plant. “GE has invested significantly in the development of this upgrade … the GT26 gas turbine at … Enfield is the world’s first GT26 unit equipped with the HE upgrade to achieve H-class performance levels approaching 60% combined cycle efficiency …” said Amit Kulkarni, head of Product Management for Heavy Duty Gas Turbines, GE Gas Power. “

The figures

The test results showed the folling key performance benefits:

  • Higher efficiency for combined-cycle power plants – up to 2 percentage points base load increased efficiency, translating to as much as $4 million in fuel savings annually per unit, and up to 1 percentage point increased efficiency in part load, yielding up to $1 million in fuel savings a year per unit.
  • Increased plant output of up to 25 MW per unit.
  • Extended inspection intervals up to 32 000 hours.
