US • Efficiency boost Polar Works of New York has received funding from GRI International for the development of its desiccant-based inlet air cooling system for gas-turbines. The system, due to be launched in November, improves turbine efficiency by making the inlet air more dense and thus increasing the oxygen available for combustion. Desiccating the air, unlike conventional refrigeration techniques, enhances this process. The system, which Polar Works claims is more effective in humid conditions such as those encountered in south east Asia, expected to be available for installation from next year.
