In line with the Swedish government’s nuclear phase-out policy, Sydkraft finally shut down the Barsebäck 1 nuclear plant on 30 November.

Sydkraft will be compensated by Vattenfall supplying it with electricity at the same cost and environmental impact as Barsebäck.

Barsebäck Kraft and the Ringhals nuclear units will be merged into a single corporate group, with Vatenfall owning 74.2 per cent and Sydkraft 25.8 per cent. The government will compensate Vattenfall with $300 million over 4 years. Vattenfall will also receive 74.2 per cent of electricity production from Barsebäck 2.
