An innovative Artificial Intelligence camera system designed to cut the risk of serious injury on busy construction sites, is set to be implemented across the nuclear power industry.

Safety Shield Global has won a contract to fit its ‘human-form detection devices’, described by the company as ‘revolutionary’, to mobile operated construction plant at Sellafield in the northwest of England, in a deal that could then be replicated across the UK.

Supported by plant provider G&AM Lawson, the Safety Shield Artificial Intelligence Human Form Detection system was demonstrated and tested at Sellafield last year before very recently being introduced into the workplace.

The introduction of Safety Shield is said to provide a world-class level of protection for contractors in the most demanding of safety-focused environments with operators given a full 360-degree ‘window’ to ensure workforce safety.

The former nuclear power generation plant Sellafield remains Europe's largest nuclear site. It is now providing nuclear waste processing and storage, and nuclear decommissioning services.
