National Power announced it will build a 110 MWe gas-fired CHP plant in Thailand. Construction of the $89 million Thai National Power project will start immediately on an industrial park 100 km southeast of Bangkok. It is due to be operational by autumn 2000. It will be 100 per cent owned by National Power, and built by a consortium led by Electrowatt Engineering and Sumitomo.
The project is part of Thailand’s Small Power Producer (SPP) programme, established to encourage efficient use of energy. Under the programme, 90 MWe of the plant’s output will be sold through a 25-year power purchase agreement to EGAT.
