According to a recently announced government plan, the China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC), which currently acts as both administrator and manufacturer in China’s nuclear power sector, is to be split into two parts.
One part will be responsible for the mining of uranium and for the processing of the element for both civilian and military use. The second part will take control of the construction of nuclear power plants.
According to the plan, which still requires official approval, the administrative function of the CNNC will be taken over by the State Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence.
After the restructuring, the parts of CNNC will be transferred to enterprise groups.
