South Coast Power has appointed UK engineers Mott MacDonald as the owner’s engineer for the construction of a 400 MWe combined cycle plant at Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex. The project will cost around $328 million.

The new power plant will be constructed on the site of a previous station called Brighton B. It will comprise a single shaft combined cycle unit. The power station will burn natural gas, and power will be sold into the UK pool.

Construction of the project is expected to start this year, with completion scheduled for late 2000.
