Vietnam and India have signed an agreement to co-operate in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. the announcement was made by Vietnamese prime minister Phan Van Khai after a meeting in Hanoi with Indian premier Atal Behari Vajpayee on January 7th. India will provide technical assistance to Vietnam fo build an atomic power research institute in Da Lat and provide a $2.4 million grant to help Vietnam establish a computer software centre. Vietnam plans to build its first atomic power plant by 2020 to meet growing electricity demand for industrialisation and modernisation.
