The first commercially operating sustainable energy station in Britain is now operating in Woking town centre. Developed by Thameswey Energy, the 1.35 MW gas-fired combined heat and power station supplies energy services to local businesses and offices in and around Woking town centre, electricity via the public network to remote sites elsewhere in the borough, and cooling water via private pipelines from a heat powered absorption chiller. The energy station is the first project of Thameswey Energy, a joint venture company formed by the Woking Borough Council owned Thameswey and Esco International, a subsidiary of Danish company Hedeselskabet. The project has been supported by the Energy Saving Trust.
