GE’s growing fleet of travelling power plants is headed for the western United States this summer, where it will supply approximately 440 MW of power to help meet the region’s mounting energy requirements. GE Energy Rentals is supplying 22 TM2500 (trailer-mounted) gas turbine-generator sets to be installed at temporary sites in Arizona, Utah and Washington. The power from these rental units will be available to meet local summer peak demands. Each TM2500 is capable of producing 22.8 MW. Ten of the TM2500 units have been rented by Pinnacle West Energy, with five each to be installed at their West Phoenix and Saguaro power stations in Arizona. Five units will be used by Pacific Corp; at the Gadsby Power Station in Salt Lake City, Utah, and seven TM2500s are being rented by an additional client in the Pacific Northwest.
During the last year the road show has been to Chicago, operating at 60 Hz on natural gas, and to Ireland, running at 50 Hz on distillate fuel. Following this success, ESB recently renewed their contract with GE and the travelling power plants will return to Ireland again later this year.
