DEAT found that the project was, with some conditions, acceptable from an environmental impact point of view. The RoD concludes the detailed feasibility phase of the project, which included a three-year environmental impact assessment (EIA) process.

There is now a 30-day period during which any parties may lodge appeals with the South African minister of environmental affairs and tourism. The South African cabinet must approve the project, and the National Nuclear Regulator must issue a construction licence before the PBMR can be constructed.
