Germany’s solar energy industry is expecting a 20% growth rate over 2005, according to the chief executive of the industry association (Bsi), Gerhard Stryi-Hipp, with an anticipated combined industry turnover of €2.2 billion this year.

However, this optimism may be misplaced with the expected rise of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) after the party chief Angela Merkel announced plans to change renewable energy policy. Currently, domestic solar energy receives €0.55/KWh of state aid.
