Joseph Kelliher has been named as the new chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, replacing Pat Wood who concluded his term last week.

An energy lawyer, Kelliher has served as a FERC commissioner since November 2003 before which he was a senior policy advisor to the Secretary of Energy.

“One of the first orders of business is to help the president get an energy bill that will prevent market manipulation and exercise of market power, increase investment in our electricity infrastructure, and assure adequate electricity and natural gas supply,” Kelliher said on his appointment.
