Canadian power development company Canasia Power Corp. is planning to boost its activities in India through the development of a 1320 MW supercritical thermal power project.
The Toronto-based firm has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Gujurat state to develop the clean coal project, which will be commissioned by 2014. The project will be the second to be developed in India by Canasia.
The 2 x 660 MW project in Gujurat will be constructed on the coast to facilitate the potential need for fuel imports, says Canasia. Gujurat is the westernmost state in India and also one of the country’s most industrialised states.
In 1993 Canasia began development of the Jawaharpur Thermal Power Project (JTP) in Uttar Pradesh. In May 2008 it completed the expansion of the JTP plant to 1320 MW from its original size of 800 MW, and also modernised the boilers from conventional to supercritical design.
