Indonesia’s PT PLN (Persero) is to expand the generating capacity on the island of Java with a new combined cycle plant supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI).
The state-owned utility has placed a full turnkey order with MHI for a 750 MW natural gas fired power plant to be constructed on the site of the existing Tanjung Priok power plant, located 10 km northeast of Jakarta. The plant is slated to go on-line in November 2011.
Under the turnkey contract, MHI will supply two M701F gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), one steam turbine and the balance of plant (BOP). Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will supply the generators, while Areva T&D will provide the substations and power transmission facilities.
The new power plant will help the West Java region to overcome the power shortages that it is experiencing as a result of rapidly growing electricity demand.
MHI has previously supplied four other M701F machine to Indonesia, first at the Cilegon power plant in 2006 and then two units for the repowering project at Muara Karang.
