French engineering group Alstom Power has been awarded a $300 million contract by the state of Bahrain to build a 700 MW power station on Hidd island. This is the second phase of the Hidd project; phase 1, built by ABB and Fisa Italimpianti, is currently providing 280 MWe and 30 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
