EPH (Energetický a prumyslový holding, a.s.) has completed the acquisition of biomass power plants owned by Biomasse Italia and Biomasse Crotone (total capacity 73 MW), the group’s second significant investment in biomass following purchase of Lynemouth in the UK, which will constitute 400 MW of biomass capacity once converted.

Many of EPH’s acquisitions to date have been coal and lignite generating capacity, including, most recently, a 72.6% stake in Hungarian company Mátra (see this month’s news section), in consortium with Status Power Invest Kft. The stake in Mátra – which has 960 MWe of capacity across lignite, photovoltaics, and gas, plus two open pit lignite mines – has been acquired from RWE and EnBW.
