Independent coverage of power generation since 1981
Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems reports that it has received the first order for its pressurised hybrid power generation system integrating solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stacks with micro gas turbines (MGT), albeit from another part of Mitsubishi. Aiming at the commercial and industrial market, the system is being installed in the Marunouchi Building in Tokyo, owned and operated by Mitsubishi Estate. Full-scale operation is scheduled to start in February 2019, when renovation work on the building’s generators is completed.
The hybrid system uses city gas as fuel, generating electricity via ceramic SOFC stacks (operating at 900°C and running on hydrogen from reformed city gas), and MGTs.
This project was supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) as well as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Environment’s programme to support the development of smart energy areas utilising hydrogen.
