• Great Plains Power Inc has signed a memorandum of understanding with Babcock and Wilcox covering the development and construction of up to five coal-fired power stations with capacities in the range 500 MW to 900 MW each. The initial focus is on construction of a plant near Weston, Missouri. It is anticipated that the plant will be operational by 2005. The company expects soon to start seeking companies interested in contracting for the power from the Weston plant, with an anticipated minimum block size of 50 MW.

The memorandum between Great Plains Power and Bacbcock and Wilcox builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. Great Plains Power has just completed construction of a 550MW plant for its affiliate, Kansas City Power and Light, with a boiler island by Babcock and Wilcox which is designed to exceed the US New Source emissions standard.
