Volvo Penta, which works across the power unit field but majors in marine and truck engines, has introduced three new units adapted to or designed specifically for power generation applications, the TAD734GE rated at 250 kVA at 50 Hz for prime power, the TAD1350GE, rated at 250 to 400 kWe at 50Hz and the TWD1643GE, rated at 630 kVA, 50Hz..

The new 7.2 litre TAD734GE engine has been developed specifically for power generation applications. Electronically controlled common rail fuel injection gives higher power, low fuel consumption and excellent step load performance. It is said to exhibit impressive load acceptance, reduced assembly time, and low operational cost and is emissions certified for EU stage 2. It is available as a duel frequency1500/1800 rpm unit.

The new TAD1350GE 250-400 kWe power generation engine series features what its maker calls a high tech design that satisfies the toughest existing emissions requirements – EPA/CARB Tier 3. The engine is made to be extremely reliable and durable, and is manufactured in one of the world’s most advanced and quality assured plants.

Low fuel consumption for low operational cost is achieved through advanced combustion chamber design combined with EMS2, Volvo’s electronic control system that manages the unit injector and turbo charger. Cooling is designed for operation in hot climates utilising a highly efficient radiator and charge air cooler package. It also exhibits excellent load acceptance, a highly efficient cooling system and is EPA/CARB Tier 3 emission certified. It is otimised for 1800 rpm.

The new 16 litre 630 kVA TWD1643GE employs the latest advanced engine technology combining high output with compact installation dimensions thus offering reduced packaging and shipmentcosts. Highly controlled output power is developed by the incorporation of dual stage turbocharging and dual stage charge air cooling, and, combined with a sophisticated engine control system, excellent single load acceptance at both 1500 and 1800 is achieved.

It is said to offer low operational costs and is emission certified for Environmental Protction Agency Tier 2 and EU stage 2.
