Major Dutch wholesaling chain Makro, which has eight distribution centres located in the Malaysian peninsular, has selected Scania engines to provide standby power for its operations in the country. The Plentong branch, one of the leading outlets, owing to its proximity to Singapore, has installed a 14 litre eight cylinder DC14 unit operating at 1500 rpm and producing, via a Newage Stamford HC534D brushless alternator, some 30 per cent of the site’s total demand. The 400 kVA rated generated supply caters for emergency lighting, computer systems and a proportion of essential refrigeration equipment. Scania distributor Powermech is supplying and commissioning the set as well as air inlet/outlet sound attenuators and the silenced exhaust system.
Once a detailed load analysis of emergency loading had been undertaken, testing took the form of proving load trials on the building and with dummy loading.
•The recently set up generating set manufacturer RPG Energy, of Jakarta, has placed an order for 100 D9, DC9, DC12 and DC14 Scania engines to power seven genset models in the 200 to 500 kVA range. It has also appointed Scania its key supplier for engines in that same power range. The new company, which has a purpose built manufacturing facility in Jakarta, caters for the Pacific Rim region, particularly the standby market.
