Two turbine-generators featuring Hitachi gas turbines and Siemens generators have been successfully brought on line in Korea and Japan. The H25 gas turbine, linked to Siemens “universal generator” with ratings between 25 and 35 MW, can be deployed for 50- or 60- Hz grid frequency. The package-design machines are delivered on a baseplate fitted with auxiliaries. They can generate power immediately after connection to the mechanical drive turbine. The availability of these generators is almost 100 per cent.

Siemens is also to supply five 30 MW generators to Nuovo Pignone, a subsidiary of GE. The generators are extremely rugged, say Siemens, because of their ‘global vacuum-pressure impregnation’ technology, wherein the entire generator stator is immersed in epoxy resin in a vacuum and then cured.
