SNC-Lavalin and Holtec International have signed a teaming agreement to assist in the development of Holtec’s small modular reactor, SMR-160. Under the terms of the agreement SNC-Lavalin (which describes itself as “steward” of Candu nuclear technology) will provide Holtec with a range of nuclear engineering services including supporting the licensing of the SMR-160 reactor.

The SMR-160 is an “inherently safe” passive reactor designed to be deployable in remote locations, in areas with limited water supplies or land, and in applications where “traditional” large reactors are not practical.
