17 day repairs here

21 July 2000

GE subsidiary GEAPS (Aeroderivative and Package Services) recently undertook at its Miami depot an emergency repair on a Rolls Royce Avon gas generator sited usually in the Middle East. Under time pressure the job was completed in only 17 days and the generator returned to its oilfield site. The emergency nature of the repair meant that it was necessary to plan the whole operation, and determine what combustion and turbine components would be needed, while the generator was still en route to Miami.

Once there, it was stripped down, repaired, and tested in one of the company’s three thrust cells. Back in the Middle East a GE engineer oversaw reinstallation and site testing.
