Centrax break into East Europe

23 March 2001

Gas turbine suppliers Centrax believe that a new market is opening up for them in Eastern Europe with the successful installation and commissioning in Poland of a Rolls-Royce 501-KB7 gas turbine package.

The contract was awarded by main contractors Balcke Dürr Polska SA together with engineering contractors ZAP SA. Balcke Dürr purchased the dual fuelled low NOx gas turbine powered generator for the Ostrow Wielkopolska district heating plant, situated 300 km west of Warsaw, to generate 5.2 MWe plus 11.6 MWt from the turbine exhaust. Ostrow had been operating six 100 t/h coal boilers for the existing district heating scheme. Now one of those boilers has been replaced with a waste heat boiler, reducing both fuel and the accumulation of slag at the site.
