Construction of Rades C underway

15 May 2018

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Sumitomo and STEG (Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz) laid the foundation stone for the 450 MW gas fuelled Rades C combined cycle plant (CCPP) on 22 February.

The site is about 10 km east of Tunis. Sumitomo is providing balance of plant and undertaking civil and installation work. MHPS is supplying an M701F gas turbine and a steam turbine, while Mitsubishi Electric is the generator supplier. The heat recovery steam generator is being manufactured by MHPS Europe, which has also signed a six-year maintenance contract for the power plant.

Once in commercial operation, expected summer 2020, the new plant will account for about 10% of Tunisia’s installed capacity.

Back in the 1980s, MHI/MHPS delivered gas and oil fired boilers and steam turbines for the first two units at the Rades site, which remain in operation and are recording high availability.
