For the sake of Malaysia

5 June 2002

Production of vital Malaysian-produced sake supplies for Japan is being safeguarded by a 200 kW Scania diesel genset located at a fermentation plant near Johor Bahru. Development company BigWest Industries has set up the 4000 m2 facility to produce the basic raw material - a concentrate of fermented rice liquor - for sake production.

The set was assembled by Scania's Malaysian distributor at its Shah Alam facility. A DS11 11 litre 6 cylinder turbo-charged diesel is coupled to a Leroy Somer brushless alternator to provide a continuous or standby supply at 250 kVA, 200 kW, 80 per cent of the building's supply.
