Green mission

20 September 1999

Scania introduced a new group-wide environmental policy. It will be achieved in a number of ways: focusing on the environmental impact of products and production processes; introducing new technologies; working within legal requirements; and regular communication with special interest groups.

In 1998, Scania received the Swedish EKO energy prize for systematic energy saving efforts.

The focus of research and development will be on reducing fuel consumption and emission levels of Scania engines. Other aspects include reducing the number of different materials used in production to facilitate recycling.

Scania invested $2 million on specific environmentally related research projects in 1998, including the study of flame structures, and the formation of gas mixtures and emissions from ATAC engines which combine the Otto cycle with diesel technology.
