Kvaerner awarded gas turbine contract

20 July 2001

An engineering, procurement and construction management contract for a gas turbine power plant near Rio de Janeiro in Brazil has been awarded to Kvaerner. The contract is worth around $40 million and was awarded following the successful completion of basic engineering and preliminary procurement services in April.

The plant will have a final generating capacity of 700 MW. Phased construction will enable the first block of four turbine generators to be connected to the 345 kV power grid in Brazil later this year. Installation of the turbines will be carried out by local Brazilian contractors. The installation will meet both World Bank environmental guidelines and Brazilian regulations.
