MAN strengthens Chinese foothold

4 August 2016

From 2017, reports MAN, two of its turbines, operating in CHP mode, will deliver around 17 MW of power and 35 MW of heat to an industrial park in the provincial capital of Changsha. The order placed by Changsha ENN Heating Power Co Ltd, the energy provider for this large Chinese city, comprises a THM series gas turbine as well as an MGT 6100 gas turbine – the newest type available from MAN.

This repeat success in the Chinese market is, says MAN, thanks in no small part to good co-operation with its Chinese partner company, Shanghai Aerospace Energy Co Ltd, which is taking on the EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) role.

Equipped with dry low emissions technology and using natural gas as a low- emission fuel, MAN turbine technology will replace an existing coal-based plant in Changsha.

This also helps support the objectives of the Chinese central government, which is targetting a considerable reduction in emissions across the country.

In February the company commissioned a combined heat and power plant at Anting, near Shanghai. This covers almost 25% of the energy needs of one of the biggest car production sites in the country and uses the two-shaft version of the new gas turbine, the MGT 6200.

The Changsha plant will be the first plant to use the single-shaft MGT 6100 turbine.

THM gas turbines, of the type also being supplied to Changsha, have been around for much longer and have already amassed more than 20 million operating hours in 35 countries to date.
